Wendy Osefo And Her Husband Eddie Arrested On Fraud Charges

“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, have been arrested and booked on multiple fraud charges in Maryland.

The couple, both 41, are facing 16 total charges, including seven felony counts tied to alleged “false/misleading info fraud” exceeding $300, according to the Westminster Police Department.

TMZ was first to break the news, and PEOPLE has since confirmed that the Osefos were booked in Westminster, Maryland, on Thursday, October 9.

The Alleged Insurance Scheme

According to police, the charges stem from an incident in April 2024 when the couple reported a burglary during a trip to Jamaica.

Wendy and Eddie claimed that several luxury items, including designer handbags and high-end jewelry, had been stolen from their bedroom.

Things reportedly unraveled when Wendy was later seen on social media wearing one of the diamond rings she had listed as stolen.

Investigators say additional “missing” items were actually returned to retailers for full refunds before the alleged burglary took place.

Prosecutors allege the couple filed an insurance claim totaling $450,000 in personal property loss.

Released On Bond

Court representatives confirmed that Wendy and Eddie Osefo were released on Friday, October 10, after posting a $50,000 bond.

No information on future court dates has been made available at this time.

In addition to the felony charges, Wendy Osefo also faces a misdemeanor charge for allegedly making a false statement to a police officer.

Statement From The Osefos’ Representatives

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the couple’s representatives shared that they are home and in good spirits:

Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, are back home safely with their family and in good spirits.

They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and support from friends, fans, and colleagues.

The Osefos, alongside their legal team, look forward to their day in court.

At this time, they respectfully ask for privacy as they focus on their family and the legal process ahead.

Bravo Star And Former Professor

Wendy Osefo joined The Real Housewives of Potomac in Season 5, quickly becoming known for her sharp intellect, cultural commentary, and fierce family loyalty.

She’s a former professor at Johns Hopkins University and made history as the first Black woman to earn a doctorate in Public Affairs-Community Development from Rutgers University (Camden).

Wendy’s husband, Eddie Osefo, is an attorney and the founder and CEO of the cannabis brand Happy Eddie.

The couple, who share three children, Karter (12), Kruz (10), and Kamrynn (6), recently celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary in August.

Their Love Story Before The Scandal

Just weeks before the arrest, Wendy posted a heartfelt anniversary message celebrating their marriage.

“14 YEARS 💍 We did the work and prayerfully, God has done the rest,” she wrote. “We have built a life that will outlive us, and for that I am forever grateful.”

Eddie echoed her sentiment with his own touching words: “After all these years, I STILL choose you. We’ve created three little people with our love, a constant reminder of God’s grace in our marriage.”

The couple’s public image as an educated, successful, and aspirational pair now stands in sharp contrast to the legal trouble they face.

What’s Next For Wendy Osefo

Wendy is slated to appear in Bravo’s upcoming “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition”, premiering October 14.
