When I saw Usher was suing Bryan-Michael Cox, I had to clutch my R&B pearls and let it burn…
These two have been R&B royalty together for nearly three decades, so the idea of legal papers flying between them had my heart doing choreography it never rehearsed.
But don’t worry. According to B. Cox himself, the brotherhood is still unshaken.
How The Usher Lawsuit Came About
If you missed the initial scoop, Usher filed a lawsuit in Fulton County against Bryan-Michael Cox, Keith Thomas, Charles Hughes, and entertainment attorney Alcide Honoré.
The claim centers on a $1.7 million loan the group requested for a Buckhead restaurant and lounge called Homage ATL, which never came to life.
Usher made it clear he didn’t want to be an investor, but he agreed to loan the group the funds.
Months passed, no property was purchased, and things got fuzzy with the repayment.
Usher received $1 million this summer, but he’s still waiting on the remaining $700,000. The suit accuses Honoré of admitting that repaying the rest wasn’t simple because the money had already been used elsewhere.
Now, Usher is seeking $4.9 million in damages.
Bryan-Michael Cox Speaks Out And Mentions Usher
Here’s where it gets interesting.
In a candid Instagram statement, Bryan-Michael Cox explained that he’s caught in the middle of a deal he didn’t orchestrate and has no direct role in the transaction at the center of Usher’s lawsuit.
He noted that he’s only a passive minority shareholder and isn’t involved in the legal process.
But the line that had everyone exhaling in harmony was when he assured fans that his 27-year friendship with Usher is still intact.
According to him, this situation is disappointing but temporary, and once all the dust settles, his name will be cleared on both sides.
What This Means For Usher And Bryan-Michael Cox
Listen. When two legends with a musical history as rich as Confessions era vocals say the bond isn’t broken, I believe them.
Business can get messy, especially when multiple hands are in the pot, but hearing that the personal relationship remains strong gives fans hope that the music, the brotherhood, and the legacy aren’t going anywhere.
I’m rooting for a positive resolution all around.
Nobody wants to see longtime collaborators caught up in a restaurant saga, especially when the R&B streets need them both focused on the next classic.
