On Juneteenth, actress and entrepreneur Tia Mowry opened her heart to the world in a powerful Instagram post that struck a deep chord across social media.
With a carousel of family photos and empowering quotes, Tia got real about growing up biracial, navigating identity, and the pivotal moments that helped her fully embrace her Blackness.
“Finding my place took time… even as a mixed kid, I knew I was Black. But growing up, the world around me didn’t always reflect that back to me.”

In a vulnerable reflection, Tia Mowry spoke about how her formative years were shaped by a complex struggle for belonging.
She recalled feeling out of place in high school cliques—unsure where she fit in among the “Black kids, mixed kids, and grunt kings.”
But beneath the surface, she always knew who she was and where she stood.
“It made me want to be loud about my pride. To be Black and proud. To celebrate where I come from…”
Her post also highlighted how damaging colorism and racial bias were—both in the world and within her own experiences growing up.
👩🏾🍼 Motherhood Deepened Her Purpose
Now, as a mother of two, Tia Mowry is determined to instill a deep sense of pride and self-worth in her children.
She shared a heartbreaking moment when her son, Cree Hardrict, was just five years old and already facing racism.
He was called a monkey and told his skin was “ugly.”
“That’s why I speak up. So they know they are loved, valued, and protected.”
Tia emphasized that representation isn’t just important—it’s life-changing.
She recalled messages from fans who said they had never seen anyone who looked like them on TV until her.
🌍 Honoring Her Roots & Embracing Her Power
Tia also honored her heritage—tracing her lineage to Eleuthera in the Bahamas, Ghana, and Nigeria.
She spoke about how growing up, her Black mother was often treated with suspicion, while her white father received kindness and respect.
These moments shaped her worldview and ignited a fire in her to not only own her identity, but to celebrate it.
“We were taken, displaced and yet survived. There is strength in that. And I carry that strength with me every day.”

For Tia Mowry, Juneteenth isn’t just about celebrating freedom—it’s a call to keep fighting, rising, and creating space for Black voices to be seen and heard.
