Okay y’all, let’s talk about it—”The Chi” is back for Season 7, and when I tell you this season is about to take us through it… whew!
I recently had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with two of the show’s stars—Hannaha Hall, who plays our fave boss chick Tiffany, and Jason Weaver, who plays the ever-evolving Shaad—and babyyyy, they dropped gems.
From grief and growth to legendary screen partners and hard-hitting realness, our conversation was everything a true fan of “The Chi” could ask for.

🎭 Tiff’s Journey: From Boss Chick To Grieving Lover
If you’ve been riding with “The Chi” since day one, then you already know Tiffany’s journey has been one of the most compelling.
We’ve seen her go from navigating love with Emmett, dipping her toe in a situationship with Dante, to finding what felt like a real match in Rob.
Then boom—life hits. Hard.
Hannaha opened up about how emotionally heavy this season was for her and how much responsibility she felt portraying a woman grieving the love of her life.
“I never experienced grief from someone I was intimate with like that, so I felt a responsibility to tell that story truthfully,” she shared.
She even revealed that although she’s worked on detaching from her character over the seasons, this one hit different.
That emotional weight was real.
It was easier to detach… but I still struggled.
I wanted to do it right for the people who’ve been through this kind of pain.
And when it comes to what Hannaha’s most excited about this season? It’s all about closure—and seeing how fans react to Tiff’s evolution.
People are always asking about Rob—like, ‘Girl, you outside and Rob’s still on the porch!’
I’m just excited for fans to (hopefully) get some closure and see how Tiffany deals with it all.
And I want to see how the audience responds to the new characters and the new energy this season brings.
As a viewer, I can already tell—we’re going to feel everything Tiffany feels. So keep the tissues close.
💫 On-Screen Magic: Working With THE Lynn Whitfield

Let’s give flowers where they’re due: Lynn Whitfield is a national treasure. And the scenes between her and Hannaha? Pure gold.
Lynn helped me pull those emotions out.
Sometimes it’s just a look from her—she knows exactly what to give you in a scene.
But what really stood out was the level of humility Lynn brings to the set.
Jason Weaver called her a “supreme performer” and praised her warm spirit and team player energy.
There’s no diva energy—just grace, love, and so much wisdom.
And then the scene’s over, and you’re like… wait. I just acted across from Lynn Whitfield.
Holy s**t!
I don’t know about y’all, but I’ll be watching those scenes with my whole chest.
🌀 Shaad’s Arc: Redemption, Romance & That Tricky Inner Work
Now let’s talk about Shaad—because we’ve watched this man struggle.
He’s been through it: came home from jail, lived in the trenches, lost love, found a little light, and now? He’s caught up in a grown folks’ relationship with a powerful woman.
Jason broke it all the way down:
Shad has heart. He’s loyal. But he self-sabotages.
That’s rooted in trauma and insecurities—and we explore that this season in a real way.
This ain’t just drama for drama’s sake—it’s storytelling that reflects the complexities of real people, especially Black men trying to navigate a world that hasn’t always been kind.
Even when Shaad seems stable, you never know with him.
There’s a power dynamic in that relationship that’s tricky.
He’s trying to find his crown.
Whew. I’m already in my feelings.
🏙️ Why ‘The Chi’ Season 7 Is That One
When I tell you Season 7 is not coming to play? It’s bringing that pressure from the very first episode.
The visuals, the energy, the city of Chicago in all its summertime glory—it’s giving rich storytelling with a side of heartache, growth, and jaw-dropping moments.
When I asked Jason Weaver and Hannaha Hall to describe the season in one word, here’s what they said:
- Jason: “Rollercoaster.”
- Hannaha: “Retribution.”
And honestly? That’s it. That’s the post.
From powerful performances to emotional breakthroughs and the kind of plot twists that’ll have you texting your frens like, “Did you see THAT?”—this season has everything.
“It’s summertime in Chicago. It’s vibrant, it’s alive. You’re going to feel the city and the stories like never before,” Jason teased.
And Hannaha? She simply said, “It’s a lot of damns. Like… a lot.”
