The Audacity Of It All
Audacity must be on sale somewhere because Susan Lorincz, the Florida woman convicted of fatally shooting her neighbor Ajike Owens, now wants to sue Owens’ children for defamation.
Yes, you read that correctly.
According to court documents, Susan Lorincz, 61, claims she’s been slandered, libeled, and defamed by the family of Ajike “AJ” Owens, the 35-year-old mother of four she shot and killed through a closed door back in June 2023.
Lorincz was sentenced to 25 years in prison last year after being convicted of manslaughter.
The shooting followed repeated disputes about Owens’ children playing in a shared grassy area near both women’s homes in Ocala, Florida.
The tragic event sparked outrage across the nation and brought renewed attention to racial tensions and gun violence in neighborhood conflicts.
Netflix Documentary “The Perfect Neighbor” Renews Interest

Public interest in the case reignited last month after Netflix released “The Perfect Neighbor,” a true-crime documentary detailing the disturbing events that led to Owens’ death.
The film quickly rose to the number one spot on the streaming service in the U.S. for the week of October 20.
Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Lorincz and the property owner of the quadplex where Lorincz lived, seeking damages exceeding $50,000.
The lawsuit highlights the emotional, financial, and psychological devastation endured by Owens’ children and family.
In a shocking twist, Lorincz filed a response in September expressing her intent to countersue Dias, three of Owens’ children, and the same property owner for more than $50,000.
Court records show she has yet to formally file the countersuit.
The Ongoing Legal Battle
The initial investigation determined there was no evidence supporting Lorincz’s claims that Owens or her children were trespassing or threatening her.
Yet, Lorincz maintains she acted in self-defense, insisting Owens “screamed and threatened” her while trespassing.
Owens’ estate attorney confirmed law enforcement found Lorincz’s statements to be unsupported.
Meanwhile, the Owens family continues to fight for justice and healing, seeking compensation for emotional pain, funeral expenses, and the loss of Owens’ future earnings and estate.
The deposition for Pamela Dias is scheduled for January 21, 2026, marking the next step in this ongoing legal saga.
This story is heartbreaking on every level, but the audacity of this new legal threat adds insult to unimaginable injury.
