Very sad news coming out of St. Louis…

Rapper Huey, best known for his 2006 debut single, “Pop, Lock & Drop It,” was killed in a double shooting late Thursday night (June 25) in Kinloch.

Huey, real name Lawrence Franks Jr., was in front of a relative’s home at 8173 Martin Luther King Boulevard when the shooting occurred just before 11 p.m.

Police say Huey was shot at least once. He was rushed to the hospital by someone at the scene, but he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Huey was 32-years-old.

The second victim, a 21-year-old man, went to the Ferguson Police Department after being shot. His injuries were considered non-life threatening.

St. Louis County police Sgt. Benjamin Granda said there were as many as 10 people who may have witnessed the shooting and they are asking those people to come forward with any information they may have.

Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting.

Enrico Washington, a longtime friend and mentor to Huey told the Post-Dispatch:

He enjoyed life. Just happy about life.

You’re talking about a young man who still had a lot of life to live.

Washington said Huey was still earning royalties from his hit single and he had plans of getting into real estate and becoming a businessman.

He was also a devoted father to his beautiful daughter.

Such a sad and senseless loss.

Please stop the violence.
