Early Morning Arrest In Los Angeles

Rapper Soulja Boy found himself in legal trouble early Sunday morning after a routine traffic stop in Los Angeles led to his arrest.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the “Pretty Boy Swag” rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken into custody at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, August 3.

Authorities say the 35-year-old artist was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over near Melrose and Genesee.

During the stop, officers reportedly discovered a firearm inside the vehicle.

As a convicted felon, possession of a firearm is a serious offense — and this discovery quickly escalated the situation.

Felony Firearm Charge And Booking Details

Per reports from TMZVariety, and NBC Los Angeles, Soulja Boy was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Online inmate records show he was officially booked at 6:18 a.m. on the felony charge.

At this time, authorities have not released details on why the vehicle was stopped in the first place.

Requests for comment from the LAPD and Soulja’s legal representatives have not yet been returned.

Hours Before The Arrest: Birthday Celebration And New Music

The arrest came just hours after Soulja Boy celebrated his birthday in L.A., as seen in videos shared to his Instagram Stories.

Earlier that day, he treated fans to a Twitch stream premiere of his new music — just months after dropping his latest album, The Influence, in February.

This arrest is the latest in a string of legal troubles for the rapper.

In April, Soulja was ordered to pay nearly $4 million to a former assistant after a California jury found him liable in a 2021 lawsuit.

The woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, accused him of sexual assault and holding her captive.

Soulja Boy has denied the allegations, telling Rolling Stone that he “never done any of the things they’re accusing me of.”

His attorney also issued a statement arguing that the trial’s verdict was influenced by “aspersions and misperceptions of a culture” and that they intend to appeal.

The accuser’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, called the verdict a “vindication” for his client and confirmed that the case is moving into the punitive damages phase.

What’s Next For Soulja Boy?

As of now, it remains unclear when Soulja Boy will be arraigned on the new firearm charge or how it may impact his ongoing legal battles.

Fans and followers will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds.
