Criminal Investigation Launched Into Smokey Robinson After Sexual Assault Claims

Smokey Robinson, the legendary singer-songwriter, is now under criminal investigation after allegations of sexual assault were made by four former female employees.

These women, who worked as housekeepers at Robinson’s Chatsworth, California, residence between 2006 and 2024, filed a civil lawsuit last week accusing Robinson of sexual battery, assault, and false imprisonment.

They are seeking at least $50 million in damages.

In response to the civil lawsuit, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau has confirmed that it is actively investigating the case.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and the department has refrained from commenting further at this time.

In a statement issued by the sheriff’s office on Thursday, the department stated:

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau is actively investigating criminal allegations involving William Robinson AKA ‘Smokey Robinson.’

The investigation is in the early stages, and we have no further comment.

Robinson’s legal team has responded to the criminal investigation with skepticism.

They maintain that the police report was filed only after the civil lawsuit, suggesting that the timing was intended to influence public opinion.

Robinson’s attorney issued the following statement:

We are aware that a police report has now been filed by the Plaintiffs in the civil lawsuit.

It is clear to us what is happening here. Plaintiffs filed a police report only after they filed a $50 million lawsuit.

This means only that the police are now required to investigate.

We welcome that investigation, which involves Plaintiffs who continue to hide their identities, because exposure to the truth is a powerful thing.

We feel confident that a determination will be made that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, and that this is a desperate attempt to prejudice public opinion and make even more of a media circus than the Plaintiffs were previously able to create.

The record will ultimately demonstrate that this is nothing more than a manufactured lawsuit intended to tarnish the good names of Smokey and Frances Robinson, for no other reason than unadulterated avarice.

Allegations of a Hostile Work Environment

Along with the sexual assault claims, the lawsuit includes accusations against Robinson’s wife, Frances.

The women allege that she created a hostile work environment by using racially insensitive language and failing to intervene in the alleged misconduct despite knowing of previous incidents.

The plaintiffs claim they did not speak out earlier due to fear of losing their jobs, familial reprisal, or immigration concerns.

What’s Next for Smokey Robinson?

As the criminal investigation moves forward, both the public and legal teams await further developments.

The investigation is still in its infancy, and many questions remain about the evidence that will emerge and how it will impact the case.
