🎤 Smokey Robinson Fights Back With $500M Lawsuit
Smokey Robinson is speaking out and taking legal action.
The Motown legend, now 85, has filed a $500 million cross-complaint for defamation and elder abuse against the four former housekeepers who recently accused him of sexual harassment and rape.
The original lawsuit, filed earlier this month, stunned fans with its serious claims—but Robinson says the real story is much different.
In newly filed court documents, Smokey and his wife, Frances Robinson, allege that the women, along with their attorney John W. Harris, conspired to smear their names in a calculated attempt to extort money and destroy their reputations.
🧾 Inside The Cross-Complaint: Robinson’s Side Of The Story
According to the 19-page filing, the Robinsons considered the women “extended family” and were extremely generous during their employment—gifting money for dental work, vacations, concert tickets, and even a car.
The filing insists that the women fabricated their claims and that the real abuse is what the Robinsons endured in the court of public opinion.
“The depths of plaintiffs’ avarice and greed knows no bounds,” the document reads. “They were concocting an extortionate plan to take everything from the Robinsons.”
The filing also accuses attorney John W. Harris of making inflammatory statements at a May 6 press conference—allegedly calling Robinson a “serial and sick rapist,” which Smokey’s legal team argues went far beyond protected courtroom speech.
📱 Texts, Photos & Cabo Vacations: What The Filing Reveals
Robinson’s legal team submitted text messages and photos to support their case.
One housekeeper allegedly invited Smokey to her son’s graduation dinner, and another sent him a warm birthday message in 2020 saying, “Love you.”
A redacted vacation photo shows Frances Robinson in Cabo San Lucas with one of the accusers, smiling and relaxed—seemingly at odds with the lawsuit’s timeline.
⚖️ Robinson Demands Jane Does Be Named
In a related legal move, the Robinsons are also asking the court to strike the original complaint and require the plaintiffs to refile using their real names.
Their argument? The allegations are so vague and off-base that they can’t even determine who is making which claim.
The motion adds that two of the plaintiffs are sisters—something the lawsuit failed to disclose—further complicating the case’s credibility, according to Robinson’s legal team.
📢 The Original Allegations: A $50 Million Lawsuit
Filed on May 6 in Los Angeles, the original lawsuit claims Smokey Robinson repeatedly sexually assaulted four women at his homes in the San Fernando Valley and Las Vegas starting in 2007.
The plaintiffs—identified only as Jane Does—are seeking $50 million in damages for sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, and gender violence.
At a press conference, attorney John W. Harris stated:
“Obviously, no amount of money can compensate these women…but given the gravity of Mr. Robinson’s despicable and reprehensible misconduct…this amount is clearly warranted.”
Three of the women said they were too afraid to speak out previously, citing fear of job loss, immigration-related retaliation, and Robinson’s high-profile status.
🔍 What Happens Next?
As this legal battle plays out in the public eye, both sides are holding firm.
Smokey Robinson’s legal team has called the accusations “vile, false allegations,” while the plaintiffs stand by their claims and continue to seek justice.
With lawsuits, press conferences, and conflicting narratives swirling, one thing is clear—this case is far from over.

You know what’s crazy? I’ve been listening to your podcasts and I’m starting back at older episodes. I’m ironically listening to the episode right now where you said Uncle Smokey was mad that J.Lo did the Motown tribute. And as I was listening to that episode about him, then I got the notification for this article. I know that’s a bit off topic but just had to share lol
