Heartbreaking news out of Florida. 21-year-old Shamaya Lynn was fatally shot by her own child, who managed to get ahold of an unsecured handgun.
Shamaya was on a work-related zoom conference call when the shooting took place.
A coworker, who was also on the call contacted 911 and told authors that they “saw a toddler in the background and heard a noise” just before Shamaya Lynn fell backwards and vanished from the screen.
Paramedics and officers rushed to Shamaya’s home and tried to render aid, but she ultimately died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Altamonte Springs police said in a statement on Thursday:
Investigators determined that the injury was caused by a toddler who found a loaded handgun, which was left unsecured by an adult in the apartment.
Detective say the handgun belonged to the father of Shamaya’s two young children.
The children were not injured during the incident and they are now in the care of a relative.
Officer Roberto Ruiz Jr. said:
To anyone and everyone tuning into this story if you don’t have a firearm please keep it locked and secured this incident could be avoided.
The investigation in this case is ongoing.

My prayers to this family.
