R&B singer Sammie has released a statement after his mother, Angila Baxter was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the “senseless” shooting death of a 27-year-old Florida mother.

The statement, posted on his Instagram page, reads:

In consideration of the recent news, I would like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier.

I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information.

At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but the family of Mrs. Collier.

Thank you.

In an effort to protect his peace, Sammie turned off the comments on the post.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, on January 12, Baxter was driving around in her red SUV shooting at random vehicles.

Police received a call at 7:17 p.m. after a Mercedes Benz crashed into a parked car in the driveway of a home.

They found Nekaybaw Collier inside of the Benz dead from a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

According to an affidavit, Angila Baxter told police that she remembered multiple vehicles following her near Pill Hills Road and Belco Drive so she fired at them to “scare them.”

In a statement, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said, “Nekaybaw Collier was an innocent victim, struck by the gunfire of a person who claimed she was being ‘followed’ by multiple people when she recklessly fired at numerous vehicles and people.”

Nekaybaw Collier was a mother to two beautiful little girls.

A GoFundMe has been launched to aid the family financially in the wake of this senseless tragedy.

My prayers to Nekaybaw’s family, Sammie, and everyone who has been impacted by this tragedy.
