Rod Wave’s Grammy Celebration Takes A Shocking Turn
Florida rapper Rod Wave had every reason to celebrate after earning his very first Grammy nomination for his song “Sinners.”
But hours later, his night took a sharp left turn when he was arrested in Atlanta on multiple drug and weapon charges.
According to Fulton County Jail records, the 27-year-old, whose real name is Rodarius Green, was booked on November 7 on charges that include possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of controlled substances, and reckless driving.
Details Of The Arrest
Police say Rod was pulled over on Howell Mill Road after allegedly speeding through a stop sign.
Rod’s passenger, identified as Jamond Byner, was reportedly found with a small amount of marijuana.
Both men were taken into custody and later released on bail.
Rod Wave’s Legal Team Speaks Out
Rod Wave’s attorneys, Drew Findling, Zach Findling, and Marissa Goldberg, are pushing back hard against the arrest, calling it a case of racial profiling and police misconduct.
In a statement to CBS News Atlanta the legal team said:
“On November 7, the same day Rodarius Green earned a Grammy nomination, he was unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta. The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit, a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety.”
They added that they intend to “vigorously challenge this baseless arrest” and “the clear violations of Mr. Green’s rights” in court.
Not Rod Wave’s First Run-In This Year
This isn’t the first time the SoulFly artist has had legal issues in Atlanta.
Back in May, he faced a warrant for aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and tampering with evidence.

He was later charged with battery in a separate incident the following month.
What’s Next For Rod Wave
Despite his ongoing legal troubles, Rod Wave’s music continues to resonate with fans, blending raw emotion with his signature “soul-trap” sound.
His Grammy nod for “Sinners”, which appears in the film of the same name, marks a major milestone in his career.
We’ll have to wait and see how this latest legal battle plays out, but it’s safe to say the timing couldn’t have been more surreal.
