Raymond Santana: A Journey Marked By Resilience
Raymond, a proud member of the Exonerated 5, was only 14 when he was coerced into a false confession during the infamous 1989 Central Park jogger case.
Wrongfully convicted alongside four other teens, he served over seven years behind bars before his conviction was overturned in 2002—thanks to the true perpetrator’s confession and DNA evidence confirming his innocence.
Since his release, Raymond has dedicated his life to criminal and social justice advocacy.
In the New York State Capitol, he has supported legislation aimed at:
- Creating legal pathways to exoneration
- Protecting young people by ensuring they consult an attorney before waiving their Miranda rights
- Banning deceptive and coercive police interrogation tactics
