“Queen Sugar” has been renewed for a 7th season by OWN and sadly, it will be its last.
The series, based on the 2014 novel by Natalie Baszile, focuses on the Bordelon siblings, Charlie (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) , Nova (Rutina Wesley), and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe), and their extended family in the fictional community of St. Josephine.
“Queen Sugar” creator Ava DuVernay spoke with Deadline about the final season of her first series and said:
As a storyteller, the bravest thing to do is know when you’re done.
Queen Sugar being my first series where I’ve had to consider when I’m done, I’ve had to push myself to say do you have anything more to say that needs to be said with these characters?
And I’m so proud of what we’ve done and I’m proud that I’m brave enough to walk away.
The final season will premiere in 2022 and is expected to offer 13 episodes to wrap up the story of the Bordelon family and give all of us fans closure.
Are you sad the show is coming to an end?
