Omar Epps has officially joined the “Power” universe.
The 46-year-old actor has joined the cast of Starz‘s forthcoming prequel, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan.”
Set in South Jamaica, Queens, in 1991, “Raising Kanan” is a prequel to the original “Power” franchise.
It is a sprawling family drama that revolves around the coming of age of Kanan Stark; Ghost and Tommy’s mentor, partner, and adversary, who ultimately dies in a hail of gunfire in the eighth episode of Power’s penultimate season.
Omar Epps will play the role of Detective Malcolm Howard.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor shared this about his character saying:
Det. Howard, he’s a dark guy, but he has his reasoning, and what appealed to me there was the challenge of finding his why — why is he the way that he is?
Because, to me, that’s parallel to the show itself; Kanan, we know the end result of who Kanan was, but what brought that human being to make the choices that he made to ultimately become what he became in the previous Power?
I approached Howard the same way.
Like, ‘Yeah, this guy seems like this on the surface, but what’s buried underneath?’ I wanted to explore that.
I’ve been rocking with O since Juice, so I will be on time for this!
