Keisha Caine Bishop, the mother of Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles, took to Instagram to criticize the Paris Olympics stadium security for refusing to call for help as her son struggled to breathe.
I previously reported that after securing the bronze in the 200m, Noah revealed he had tested positive for COVID-19 two days before.
After the race, Noah Lyles left the track in a wheelchair.
Keisha Caine Bishop described the incident as one of the scariest moments of her life.
“This was one of the scariest moments of my life!
Watching my son hold his chest, gasping for air, while the stadium security refused to call a doctor as I begged them to send him help.
They also refused to do anything to help. They totally ignored me! No parent should ever have to experience this feeling of helplessness!
However, I want to thank the @nbcolympics team for helping me during this moment.
Thank you for seeing me and my son as human beings and not just another story. Words cannot express my gratitude for your empathy, professionalism, and kindness.
Also, thank you to the @usatf staff who let me cry on their shoulders. To the security team, I pray that if your loved one ever needs help, they receive better treatment than we did.
I also thank God he is getting better.
Unfortunately, the comment section was not a safe space or a place of support as she may have expected.
One commenter wrote:
“So the mom didn’t find it scary that he put the life of others at risk by running that race??? How self-centered is this post? In such bad taste!”
Another commenter wrote:
“Ma’am, a woman on Twitter said you’re lying. She was beside you…they didn’t refuse to call medical, they refused to let you get on the field as you were yelling in their faces, trying to jump the fence…..soooooooo.”
Someone else commented:
“You’re talking about respect? Your son had COVID and didn’t tell anyone??? Really smart and such respect… and everybody doesn’t know about asthma! He could have rested like other athletes.”
Keisha did have a few supporters in her comment section.
A commenter wrote:
“As a fellow boy mama and a huge fan of Noah’s and yours, I cried watching him gasp for air and you running at top speed to get to your baby. I want you to know how much my 25-year-old autistic and anxious son reveres and adores Noah. That Noah and you are so open about his struggles and vulnerability means the world to us. Sending you strength and love. You both are beautiful human beings and deserve the very best in everything. ❤️🙌❤️”
Noah Lyles took to Twitter over the weekend to share that he is now COVID-free!
As you can see, Noah is feeling much better and is in great spirits.
