A Life-Changing Decision One Year Ago

On July 22, Nicholas Pinnock took a moment to honor a deeply personal milestone—the one-year anniversary of checking into a residential mental health facility for trauma.

The 51-year-old British actor, best known for his powerful performances in “For Life,” “Long Bright River,” and The Book of Clarence, shared a heartfelt message that stopped me in my tracks and reminded me just how important it is to choose yourself.

Nicholas Pinnock Is A Mental Health Advocate

In addition to his work on-screen, Nicholas Pinnock is a vocal mental health advocate and ambassador for the UK-based charity MIND.

And he doesn’t just speak the words—he lives them.

In a raw and vulnerable interview with Behind The Blinds, Nicholas opened up about hitting a low point in his battle with depression and the life-or-death choice he faced.

It was either spiral further into the darkness of my issues with ill mental health or examine them and figure out how I could find mental wellness.

When you’re faced with suicide to be your only option, but you also don’t want to die and what you really want is peace, you look for all the ways to find it…

Death isn’t the goal. Peace is.

That right there? Gut-punching truth.

He went on to say, “I’m very grateful that I was able to acknowledge that, act and have the love and support around me to begin a journey of healing.”

“I Chose Me.”

On Tuesday (July 22), Nicholas shared a message on social media marking the anniversary of the moment he began to reclaim his life:

It was a year to ago today, around about this time, that I entered a residential mental health facility for trauma.

It was the best decision I have ever made.

Those 6 weeks not only changed my life, they saved my life. (No joke)

I chose to live. I chose me…🙏🏾💙

Frens, Choose You

As someone who’s been following Nicholas Pinnock’s career for years, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of him for sharing his truth.

His transparency is helping to destigmatize conversations around mental health, especially for Black men in entertainment.

So, Frens—whether you’re on your own healing journey or just trying to get through the day—take Nicholas’ lead.

Prioritize your peace. Choose yourself.

And if no one has told you today: You matter, and you’re not alone.

❤️‍🩹 Sending love and light to everyone working through their own silent battles.
