Monique Rodriguez, the founder of the popular hair care line Mielle Organics, spoke out over the weekend in response to backlash and controversy surrounding the brand’s products.
The issue gained attention after a TikTok user highlighted a 2022 lawsuit filed against Mielle Organics, accusing the company of allegedly using cancer-causing chemicals in its hair strengthening shampoo and violating Prop 65 by failing to properly warn customers of the potential risks.

This is why black beauty companies need to stop being COWARDS and/or GREEDY and selling themselves out! These companies purposely use chemicals that damage our hair and cause cancer.. WAKE UP! This isn’t the first time it happened. pic.twitter.com/veFZxzZ7mL
Things escalated when social media users began sharing their own experiences with Mielle Organics products, reporting issues like hair loss, breakage, and scalp irritation.
The brand’s popular Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil, which I personally use, received the most complaints.
Many also accused Monique Rodriguez of altering the product’s ingredients after she partnered with Procter & Gamble.
In a video posted to her Instagram page, Monique addressed the concerns, saying, “When I made the decision to partner with P&G, it was driven by my vision to take Mielle to new heights and become a global beauty brand. That vision remains as strong as ever today.”
She reassured those who are now skeptical of the products, confirming that there has been no change to the formulas. She encouraged customers to research and compare the ingredients for themselves.
