Mo’Nique opens up about her spiritual beliefs in a candid convo with Pastor Jesse Lee Peterson, saying Christianity was never her path.
🗣️ Mo’Nique Speaks Her Truth About Religion
Mo’Nique has always kept it real, and her recent conversation with conservative pastor Jesse Lee Peterson was no different.
When the topic turned to faith, the Oscar-winning actress and comedian didn’t hesitate to share where she stands spiritually—and why she doesn’t identify as a Christian.
During the conversation, Jesse asked, “You believe that Christianity is the white man’s religion?”
Mo’Nique responded:
“Well, who toured the tours? That’s a religion that was given to us that is a white man’s religion, that he said, this is our white God and this is what you believe. So, no, Jesse, I am not Christian.”
✨ “Find It For Yourself” – Mo’Nique On Spiritual Freedom
Instead of following religion for the sake of tradition, Mo’Nique encourages people—especially Black people—to discover what spirituality means to them on their own terms.
“I want for my beautiful people… it’s like y’all find it for yourself. And if finding it for yourself means, you know what? I got a husband and my husband got three wives, and all of us are good with that—then everybody good?”
She said traveling the world helped her see beyond the version of religion she was taught growing up.
“See, I’ve been able to travel the world and I’ve seen where that Jesus is Black, baby—but because we’ve been taught it’s not about the color. Don’t get caught up in that.”
🌍 Jesse’s Response: “It’s Of The Spirit”
Peterson then pushed back by explaining that Christianity has spiritual roots—not racial ones.
“Well, Christianity is a result of Judaism. Once you return to the Father, you see that it never had anything to do about color. It’s of the spirit—and in the spirit, there is no color.”
