Mary J. Blige is not holding her tongue—or her legal team—when it comes to the lawsuit filed by her former friend and longtime stylist Misa Hylton.

In a bold new court filing, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is calling out Hylton and her legal team for what she describes as “fabricating accusations” designed to pressure her into a payout.

Let’s just say… Mary didn’t come to play.

Earlier this year, Misa Hylton—known for creating some of the most iconic looks in hip-hop history—filed a lawsuit claiming that Blige “sabotaged” her business relationship with rapper Vado.

Misa and her attorney said the situation was especially painful because the women had been “closer than blood family.”

The suit alleges that Mary J. used her influence to push Vado—who’s signed to her Beautiful Life Records—to fire Hylton as his manager.

The claim went even further, suggesting Mary J. Blige withheld the release of Vado’s finished album and prevented him from touring to coerce him into cutting ties with Misa Hylton.

🧾 Mary J. Blige Calls Claims ‘Baseless’ And Seeks Sanctions

In a sharply worded legal response filed on Monday, Mary J. and her powerhouse attorney Lisa F. Moore came in swinging.

The filing doesn’t just ask the judge to dismiss the case—it seeks sanctions against both Misa and her attorney, Nicholas Ramcharitar.

The reason? Mary J. Blige’s team says the lawsuit was riddled with “false statements” and was filed purely to stir up media coverage and force a settlement.

Plaintiffs and their counsel appear to enjoy fabricating accusations that will be discussed in the press and on social media,” Blige’s legal team writes.

“Plaintiffs had significant time to investigate these issues… yet they chose not to withdraw the complaint and instead appear to be doubling down.”

Mary J.’s team attached a scathing letter sent to Misa’s lawyer back in May, demanding the lawsuit be dropped.

The letter accuses Misa Hylton of pursuing the case out of personal animus toward Mary J. Blige, not legitimate legal claims.

And they brought receipts.

One key piece of evidence? A screenshot of an alleged text from Vado saying:

“Between me and u I might be firing Misa.”

Blige’s camp argues this shows Vado was already considering dropping Misa independently—undermining her claim that Mary J. orchestrated it.

They also say the contract between Vado and Misa Hylton’s company is invalid because the company “doesn’t even legally exist.”

This feud stings extra because Mary and Misa go way back.

Misa Hylton famously styled Blige, Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, and more during the golden age of hip-hop fashion.

Remember Kim’s unforgettable purple jumpsuit at the 1999 VMAs? That was Misa.

In 2019, when Misa was honored for her cultural contributions, Mary was right there in support.

But fast forward to 2025, and their sisterhood is now caught in the crosshairs of a legal battle that’s getting messier by the minute.

⏳ What’s Next In The Case?

So far, the court hasn’t ruled on Mary J.’s motion to dismiss or the request for sanctions.

And Misa Hylton’s legal team hasn’t responded publicly to the latest filing.

But one thing’s clear—Mary J. Blige is done being silent.

She’s not just defending herself; she’s demanding accountability for what she says is a “patently frivolous” lawsuit designed to damage her name and business.

Mary also took to social media on Wednesday with this message about betrayal:

Stay tuned, because this case is just getting started.
