Mark Anthony Green is known for his sharp eye, cultural insight, and ability to tell a damn good story. But with Opus, he’s taking things to a whole new level.
This isn’t just a film—it’s a conversation, a mirror, and maybe even a warning.
I got the chance to sit down with Mark and dive into the layers of Opus, its themes, and the way it makes you question everything you thought you knew about fame and influence.
Who Is Mark Anthony Green?

If you don’t already know, let me put you on.
Mark Anthony Green (MAG) is a Kansas City native, a Morehouse College grad, and the visionary mind behind Opus.
Before stepping into filmmaking, he spent over a decade as a style columnist for GQ, interviewing some of the biggest names in music and fashion.
That experience? It gave him a front-row seat to celebrity culture, power, and the way we idolize people—often without questioning why.
As an HBCU graduate, MAG brings a fresh, nuanced perspective to his work, infusing Opus with themes of identity, loyalty, and the blurred lines between admiration and obsession.
What’s ‘Opus‘ About?

A24‘s Opus dives deep into celebrity tribalism and the dangers of blind loyalty through the story of Moretti, a legendary pop star, and Ariel, an ambitious journalist played by Ayo Edebiri.
Plot: A young writer (Ayo Edebiri) is invited to the secluded estate of a long-lost music icon (John Malkovich). But what starts as a career-changing interview quickly spirals into something darker as she becomes entangled in his world of sycophants, secrets, and a plan she never saw coming.

The Impact of ‘Opus‘
When I caught up with Mark Anthony Green, he was still riding the high from an advance screening at Atlantic Station in Atlanta.
“That was one of the most special moments of my professional life,” he told me.
And it showed—the love, the energy, the realization that he created something truly powerful.
Beyond just entertainment, Mark Anthony Green wants Opus to make people think.
“Does tribalism still serve us? Do we choose leaders the right way?” he asked.
Heavy questions, but ones that feel more relevant than ever.
One thing that really hit me? The film’s take on notoriety. Are people willing to go to extremes just to be seen?
Opus isn’t afraid to confront that ugly truth, making us question our obsession with attention, influence, and the price some are willing to pay for it.
Mark Anthony Green Interview
Seeing Mark Anthony Green get his well-deserved flowers for Opus was a moment.
This film is more than just a thriller—it’s a statement.
It’s about power, perception, and the dark side of our fascination with celebrity.
And trust me, you’re gonna want to talk about it after watching.
