The lawsuit, submitted in Manhattan federal court, alleges that these agencies were complicit in the 1965 killing of Malcolm X, failing to prevent his death despite allegedly having knowledge of the plot.

Attorney Ben Crump, representing the family, stood alongside Malcolm X’s descendants during a press conference, urging federal and city officials to confront the lawsuit’s findings.

“We hope they read this lawsuit and uncover the horrific deeds of their predecessors to correct these historic injustices,” Crump said.

Decades Of Unanswered Questions In Malcolm X’s Assasination

Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little and later known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, was gunned down on February 21, 1965, while addressing hundreds at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan. He was only 39 years old.

Over the years, the circumstances surrounding his death have raised more questions than answers.

While three men were convicted in the assassination, two were exonerated in 2021 after new investigations revealed suppressed evidence and withheld information by authorities.

Shocking Allegations In The Lawsuit

The lawsuit alleges a “corrupt, unlawful, and unconstitutional” collaboration between law enforcement and Malcolm X’s killers.

The family claims the NYPD, working with federal agencies, deliberately weakened his security by arresting members of his detail days before the assassination and withdrawing officers from the ballroom.

The suit further states that undercover federal agents were present in the room during the assassination but failed to intervene.

It also accuses authorities of withholding critical information about informants, undercover agents, and the orchestration of the attack, delaying the family’s ability to seek justice.

Malcolm X’s widow, Betty Shabazz, and their family have endured decades of pain and uncertainty, grappling with unanswered questions about the government’s involvement.

A Fight For Truth & Accountability

The Shabazz family maintains that this lawsuit is a step toward uncovering the truth.

“The damage caused to our family is unimaginable, immense, and irreparable,” the lawsuit states.

The NYPD, CIA, and Department of Justice have not commented on the lawsuit, while the FBI has adhered to its policy of not discussing ongoing litigation.

As the case unfolds, it underscores the enduring legacy of Malcolm X and his fight for justice, equality, and truth—a fight his family continues today.
