It’s with a heavy heart that I report Maia Campbell was arrested along with 43 others over the weekend in a crackdown on street racing in Atlanta.

The 43-year-old former actress and star of the hit series “In The House,” was arrested on Saturday (May 16) on Moreland Avenue. She was charged with being a pedestrian in the roadway.

Maia suffers from bipolar disorder and over the years she has made headlines because of her mental health and struggles with drug abuse.

Things were quiet with Maia Campbell and I was hoping no news was good news until this report was released along with her mugshot.

The weekend crackdown was the latest targeting street racers in metro Atlanta, where races have become spectator events and created a buzz on social media. With many streets emptier due to the coronavirus pandemic, the daredevils have more opportunities, according to police.

“This isn’t new,” Carlos Campos, spokesman for Atlanta police, said Monday afternoon. “But what the pandemic did was create a perfect storm where you have young people who are bored; their usual outlets — shopping, hanging out in a park — those were all eliminated by the stay-at-home orders.”

Police issued 114 citations and had 29 cars impounded over the weekend as part of the street racing crackdown.

Please, please, please keep Maia in your prayers.
