LL Cool J Takes The VMAs Stage Solo
Entertainment icon, GRAMMY® winner, and VMA legend LL Cool J is officially taking the reins as host of the 2025 MTV “VMAs.”
The live show will air coast-to-coast from New York’s UBS Arena on Sunday, September 7 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.
This marks the first time LL will host the VMAs solo, after co-emceeing the 2022 show alongside Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow.

A Legendary VMAs Legacy
LL Cool J has been part of VMA history for decades.
He snagged his first Moon Person back in 1991 for “Best Rap” and became the first rapper to ever receive the coveted Video Vanguard Award in 1997.
Over the years, LL has delivered some unforgettable moments on the VMAs stage:
- In 2024, he celebrated Def Jam Recordings’ 40th anniversary with a surprise Public Enemy performance.
- In 2023, he helped honor Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary with an all-star tribute.
And he’s not just hosting this year—he’s nominated too.
His track “Murdergram Deaux” featuring Eminem is up for “Best Hip-Hop,” from his critically acclaimed 2024 album THE FORCE.
