On Wednesday, a grand jury announced their decision not to hold any of the officers accountable for the killing of Breonna Taylor.
The disheartening news prompted may celebrities to take to Twitter to voice their outrage.
Ben Crump (@AttorneyCrump) – “The indictment was insulting & offensive to Breonna Taylor’s life, legacy, & family. The grand jury proceedings were a SHAM. The “wanton endangerment” charge is an example of America’s 2 justice systems – protecting white neighbors & ignoring the death of a Black woman.
Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) – “The white supremacist institution of policing that stole Breonna Taylor’s life from us must be abolished for the safety and well being of our people.”
LeBron James (@KingJames) – “Ive been lost for words today! I’m devastated, hurt, sad, mad! We want justice for Breonna yet justice was met for her neighbors apartment walls and not her beautiful life. Was I surprised at the verdict. Absolutely not but damnit I was and still am hurt and heavy hearted! I send my love to Breonna mother, family and friends! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! The most disrespected person on earth is the black woman! I promise you I’ll do my best to change this as much as I can and even more!! Love to you queens all over this country and beyond!
ICE T (@FINALLEVEL) – “Did anybody REALLY expect anyone to go to Jail for Breonna Taylor’s MURDER? Black people didn’t. We’re used to this BS. Smh”
Touré (@Toure) – “Why did Breonna Taylor’s family get $12 million for her wrongful death if no one is responsible for her death?”
Dwade (@DwyaneWade) – “Dear Breonna, I’m so sorry the people in power have failed to get this right. You deserve so much more. Your life mattered. You deserved the bright future that was ahead of you. We will continue to say your name. We will continue to fight in your name. #BreonnaTaylor”
Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) – “Tonight, I’m thinking of Breonna Taylor’s family who is still grieving the loss of a daughter and sister. We must never stop speaking Breonna’s name as we work to reform our justice system, including overhauling no-knock warrants.”
Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) – “It’s a disappointing day for Louisville, the state of Kentucky, and for all American people to say the least. Breonna Taylor’s family received a settlement in their wrongful death lawsuit yet no one is being held accountable for her wrongful death?? Help us understand!!!”
Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) – “Breonna Taylor’s life matter and justice must be equally applied in America. I agree with @GovAndyBeshear: More information should be released. The evidence presented to the Grand Jury should be made public.”
Viola Davis (@violadavis) – “Bulls— decision!!! BLACK LIVES MATTER!!! Cannot be said enough times.”
Donovan Mitchell (@spidamitchell) – “I don’t have many words right now… but all I can say is I’m praying for the city of Louisville right now!!!”
Skylar Diggins-Smith (@SkyDigg4) – “Vote like our lives depend on it.”
Kerry Washington (@kerrywashington) – “Daniel Cameron is on Donald Trump’s short list as replacement of #RGB on the Supreme Court. The same man who decided to not charge the officers responsible for killing #BreonnaTaylor. Vote.”
Breonna Taylor did not get justice, she got ignored.
There is a blatant disregard for black lives in America.
The retort to Black Lives Matter is often All Lives Matter, so why didn’t Breonna Taylor’s life matter?
