📍 What Happened Outside That Foot Locker?

Social media is sounding off and demanding justice for 19-year-old Lakylia Taylor, who is currently facing second-degree murder charges after a deadly shooting that occurred outside of a Foot Locker in Eastpointe, Michigan.

According to reports, the incident took place around 2:50 p.m. on May 3, when Lakylia and her 21-year-old brother, Dejuan Taylor, got into a heated argument with a group of people they knew in the parking lot of the store located on Eight Mile.

The altercation turned violent, and prosecutors say Dejuan was jumped—taken to the ground and attacked.

Prosecutor Pete Lucido confirmed that at least one person in the group was armed.

That’s when Lakylia allegedly ran to retrieve a gun and opened fire to protect her brother.

Two men were killed, and two others—including Dejuan—were wounded.

🧾 The Charges Facing Lakylia & Dejuan Taylor

Following the incident, the Taylor siblings were arrested and hit with multiple charges.

Lakylia Taylor is facing the following:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Felony firearm
  • Assault with intent to murder
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Carrying a concealed weapon

Dejuan Taylor has been charged with:

  • Tampering with evidence
  • Firearms larceny
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Larceny under $200

Investigators allege that Dejuan took the gun and ammunition from the scene before fleeing with his sister.

⏳ Court Date Postponed—Here’s Why

The siblings were originally scheduled for a preliminary exam this month, but the court proceedings have been delayed because one of the surviving victims is still recovering from surgery and unable to testify.

They are now due back in court on July 18.

  1. When are people going to learn? Shooting a gun can lead to death. Sorry but, defending someone is not an excuse. She could’ve shot in the air or better yet called the police. I don’t know, I’m just tired of hearing these stories. We are losing too many people to gun violence.

    • There are Stand your ground laws. Unfortunately black folks don’t get the same benefits under the law. Plus shooting in the air is still a bullet that comes back down & can kill someone. It often does. Police weren’t going to arrive until after EHR brought ther was dead.
