Kwamé Is Back With A New Sound And A Nostalgic Vibe
Multi-award-winning platinum-selling artist and producer Kwamé is reminding the world exactly why he’s one of hip-hop’s most creative forces.
His new single, “Ms Mary Mack,” is here — and it’s the first taste of his highly anticipated album The Different Kids, arriving August 29 via SRG-ILS Group/Virgin Music/(UMG).
Written, performed, and produced by Kwamé, “Ms Mary Mack” blends heavy lyrical flow with slick wordplay, using “classic hood nursery rhymes” and “Double Dutch call outs” as the hook.
The production is pure juke joint energy over hard hip-hop drums, creating a sound that’s both nostalgic and fresh.

The Story Behind “Ms Mary Mack”
The visuals for “Ms Mary Mack,” directed by Kwamé and Jonathan Jacobs, are a nod to his classic “The Rhythm” video — but with a twist.
Instead of performing for a packed speakeasy, this time Kwamé appears in an empty Kit Kat Club, dressed in his signature all-white with polka dot accents.
It’s unclear if the crowd has already left… or if they’re about to show up.
Either way, the performance hits just as hard.

From “Stroke Dif’Rent” To The Different Kids
The journey to The Different Kids began unexpectedly.
Kwamé was on the phone with DJ Tat Money when he pulled up the Diff’rent Strokes theme song.
Isolating the sounds inspired him to start rapping over the instrumentation, leading to “Stroke Dif’Rent” — a track that reignited his passion for rhyming.
The positive response from that single, along with the viral energy of his upbeat anthem “No Way Go Away,” gave him the push to create a full project.
“It was cool having validation from people based on me as an artist as opposed to, ‘Check out this thing that I just produced,’” Kwamé shared.
The Meaning Behind The Different Kids
Kwamé says the title reflects how he’s always felt in life — out of step with the mainstream, but completely in his own lane.
The album is self-produced and showcases Kwamé’s layered artistry — from the sitcom-inspired intro on “The Kwame Show” to the societal observations in “Hello Anybody” and the raw relationship truths in “Adulthood.”
Lady Tigra of L’Trimm joins him on “Ole Skool Rapper,” while “KWAME 2 KWAME” imagines a conversation with his younger self.
Why “Ms Mary Mack” Stands Out
Of all the tracks on the album, “Ms Mary Mack” captures Kwamé’s signature blend of sharp lyricism and playful nostalgia.
The beat is stripped down yet infectious, and the hook will have you reciting childhood rhymes with a hip-hop twist.
Kwamé sums up the creative vision for The Different Kids perfectly: “I’m not going to allow what’s ‘in style’ or ‘out of style’ to dictate what I do. I try to be as absolutely creative as I can possibly be without anybody telling me, ‘No, you can’t do that,’ but myself. That thought process is the soul of the album.”
🔥 “Ms Mary Mack” is available now on all streaming platforms.
The Different Kids drops August 29 — and if this single is any indication, we’re in for a treat.
