Brandon Blackstock Passes Away At 48
Brandon Blackstock, a longtime talent manager and former husband of Kelly Clarkson, has passed away at the age of 48 following a private battle with cancer.
A statement shared by a family representative confirmed the news:
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away.
Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years.
He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.
We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
Clarkson Postpones Las Vegas Residency
On August 6, Kelly Clarkson revealed that Blackstock had been ill and announced that she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency to focus on their children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” Clarkson said in a public statement.
Career And Industry Ties
Brandon Blackstock was a well-known figure in the music industry.
He was the son of Narvel Blackstock, a music manager who previously worked with Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson.
He was also formerly married to Clarkson, and served as her manager for a period of time.
He also managed other artists, including Blake Shelton.
Blackstock was previously the stepson of country music legend Reba McEntire during her marriage to Narvel Blackstock from 1989 to 2015.
Relationship With Kelly Clarkson
Brandon Blackstock met Kelly Clarkson in 2006 at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards.
They married in October 2013.
Clarkson’s 2015 song “Piece By Piece” was inspired by their relationship.
They share two children: River Rose and Remington Alexander.
Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020.
The divorce was finalized in 2022.
The separation included legal disputes over property and finances.
In 2023, a labor commissioner ruled that Blackstock had overstepped legal boundaries while managing Clarkson’s career, and he was ordered to pay her $2.6 million in commissions.
Clarkson later filed another lawsuit in 2024, though both parties dropped all remaining claims in May 2024.
Family And Survivors
Brandon Blackstock is survived by his four children: Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage, and River and Remington with Kelly Clarkson.
He became a grandfather in 2022 when his daughter Savannah welcomed a son named Lake.
He is also survived by his father Narvel Blackstock and siblings Shelby, Shawna, and Chassidy.
