Dekalb County Police have arrested Atravious North, a Georgia father who falsely reported his 2-year-old son, J’Asiah Deon Mitchell, had been kidnapped.
North told authorities that his son was kidnapped at gunpoint on Wednesday, August 16 around 11:23 p.m.
According to police, Atravious said J’Asiah was taken when he stopped at a stop sign at the Aspen Woods apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road.
On Thursday, Dekalb police said they found no signs of an armed robbery or kidnapping and determined Atravious North filed a false report.
North, who was already in jail for an unrelated crime, was arrested by Dekalb County police and charged with false statements and false reports of a crime.
Sadly, the child remains missing.
“It’s really critical. This is a 2-year-old boy,” Ischa Njoku with the East Point Police Department said. “We have to find this boy.”
Police are now draining the lake at the Lakeview Place apartment complex where J’Asiah Deon Mitchell was last seen with his father.
J’Asiah’s mother, Asia Mitchell, made a public plea for the return of her baby boy.
“Please bring my baby back safe,” she said.
Anyone with information regarding J’Asiah Deon Mitchell’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or 770-724-7850.
The investigation remains ongoing. Please join me in praying that the baby is found safe.
