Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back together on set, much to the delight of fans, as Disney has released a first behind-the-scenes look at the production of “Freaky Friday 2.”
This highly anticipated sequel is now officially filming, with Lohan and Curtis reprising their iconic roles of Anna and Tess Coleman.
While Disney has not yet revealed plot details for the sequel to the beloved 2003 comedy, the studio has confirmed that “Freaky Friday 2” will hit movie theaters in 2025, dispelling rumors that it might be exclusively released on Disney+.
The original film was a box office success, grossing $160 million worldwide.
Joining Lindsay Lohan and Curtis in the sequel are several familiar faces from the first film: Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are all set to return.
New additions to the cast include Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons.
The sequel’s official announcement came in March 2023, following months of speculation and hints from Lohan and Curtis.
Nisha Ganatra is directing “Freaky Friday 2,” bringing her expertise from Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendales” and feature films like “The High Note” and “Late Night.”
Jamie Lee Curtis initially sparked excitement for a second “Freaky Friday” movie during an appearance on “The View” in October 2022, where she revealed that she had personally written to Disney about making the sequel.
The original film’s producer, Andrew Gunn, is back for the follow-up, alongside former Disney executive Kristin Burr.
Fans of the original “Freaky Friday” can look forward to seeing the magic of Lohan and Curtis’s dynamic chemistry on screen once again, with an ensemble cast that promises to deliver a nostalgic yet fresh experience.
