Jackie Johnson, the former Brunswick District Attorney who blocked police from arresting the men who killed Ahmaud Arbery, has been indicted.
Johnson has been charged with obstruction of a police officer after telling two Glynn County police officers not to arrest Travis McMichael, the man who shot and killed Ahmaud. (Misdemeanor)
She was also indicted for allegedly violating her oath of office for “showing favor and affection to Greg McMichael, who is also charged in the case. (Felony)
Greg McMichael once worked as an investigator in Jackie Johnson’s office.
Days after blocking officers from arresting the murderous McMichaels, Johnson recused herself from the case.
In May 2020, Attorney General Chris Carr requested for the GBI to investigate a potential case of prosecutorial misconduct.
Carr said in a statement:
Our office is committed to ensuring those who are entrusted to serve are carrying out their duties ethically and honestly.
We thank the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Glynn County Grand Jury for their hard work. While an indictment was returned today, our file is not closed, and we will continue to investigate in order to pursue justice.
Jackie Johnson was voted out of office after her dusty deeds.
In a 2020 radio interview with WIFO-FM in Jesup, she denied any wrongdoing.
The one mistake I made in this case was trying to be helpful to the police. In retrospect, I was trying to do a good deed and get them some help and guidance to help them do their job. It’s now being used against me.
A lie don’t care who tells it.
