🎭 Faizon Love Accused Of Assault In Heated Hotel Altercation
Faizon Love, the actor and comedian best known for his roles in Elf, Friday, and Couples Retreat, is now facing serious legal trouble.
A San Diego County judge ruled there’s enough evidence for Love to stand trial for felony assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a 2023 hotel incident that allegedly turned violent.
📍 What Allegedly Went Down At The Hotel
According to testimony during a preliminary hearing, the incident happened last August when Love was reportedly denied a room at a hotel despite using a third-party app to book it.
A front desk clerk testified that Love became irate after learning there were no vacancies.
She told the court that attempts to deescalate the situation by her and two coworkers were unsuccessful.
“Mr. Love was extremely upset. It was zero to 100 real quick,” the alleged victim said during her testimony.
“He was repeatedly asking if we knew who he was.”
That’s when she claimed things took a dangerous turn.
“Mr. Love looked directly at me, pulled the credit card machine off and threw it [in] my direction,” she testified, stating the device struck her in the side of the head.
She later went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion, also reporting long-term side effects like light sensitivity.
⚖️ Defense Pushes Back, Questions Credibility
Faizon Love has pleaded not guilty to the felony charge, which includes an enhancement due to the alleged victim’s injury.
His attorney, Marc Kligman, vigorously challenged the case, arguing inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s statements.
Kligman played police body camera footage to show discrepancies between the clerk’s in-court testimony and what she told 911 dispatchers and responding officers at the scene.
He also pointed out that one of the two witnesses who backed the clerk’s story admitted he never actually saw her get hit—only that he heard a sound.
“What should give the court pause … is in the insufficiency of the evidence and credibility of the witnesses,” Kligman argued.
The defense also raised questions about the woman’s motivations, noting that she has filed a civil lawsuit against Love seeking financial damages.
“I think there’s quite a bit of motivation for her to make this up, to exaggerate,” Kligman added.
🧑🏾⚖️ Judge Moves Case Forward To Trial
Despite the defense’s efforts, Judge Rohanee Zapanta ruled that the prosecution presented enough probable cause to move the case forward. Love was immediately arraigned and a trial date has been set for January.
If convicted, Faizon Love could face up to seven years behind bars.
