I had the absolute pleasure of chopping it up with Dominique Thorne, the star of Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Disney+ series, “Ironheart“.
And let me tell you—this conversation was just as powerful as the tech genius she plays on screen.
When I asked Dominique what parts of Riri’s personality or story resonated with her the most, her response was both thoughtful and real:
“I think for all the brains and the brilliance that she has, at the end of the day, she’s young… and there’s nothing more important to her in the world than doing what she feels in her heart.”
Dominique went on to describe how refreshing it is to see a young Black girl fully owning her power, unapologetically chasing her dreams, and learning how to balance that fire with the everyday challenges of life.

Set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, “Ironheart” follows Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne), a teenage genius and inventor on a mission to build her own legacy—on her own terms.
When Riri returns to her hometown of Chicago, her groundbreaking tech and unstoppable ambition put her directly in the crosshairs of Parker Robbins, aka The Hood (played by In the Heights star Anthony Ramos).
He’s a villain who brings dark magic into the mix—and challenges Riri in ways she never expected.
As she grapples with grief, self-discovery, and newfound power, Riri must battle enemies from both the tech world and the supernatural realm.
