A Tragic Shooting At Utah Valley University

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk has passed away at the age of 31 after being shot during a campus event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10.

The news was first confirmed by President Donald Trump in a public statement.

According to witnesses, Kirk was speaking to a crowd under a white pop-up tent as part of his American Comeback Tour when shots rang out.

Video footage from the event appeared to show him being struck in the side of the head or neck.

Chaos erupted as attendees ran for safety, shouting, “Run, run, run!”

Statements From Leaders And Officials

President Trump quickly took to Truth Social to share his condolences, writing:

The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.

No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.

He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us.

The FBI, led by Director Kash Patel, also issued a statement, noting that agents were “closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting” and would provide support in the investigation.

A spokesperson for Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk co-founded, told CBS News that his condition was critical before his passing was confirmed.

Kirk’s Rise To Prominence

Charlie Kirk rose to national attention after co-founding Turning Point USA at just 18 years old.

The organization was designed to promote conservative values on high school and college campuses across the country.

He later launched “The Charlie Kirk Show,” a three-hour talk program that made him one of the most prominent conservative voices in the United States.

In 2020, then-President Trump appointed him to a commission tasked with promoting “patriotic education.”

Kirk also gained traction online, with NBC News reporting in 2024 that his podcast was downloaded between 500,000 and 750,000 times per day.

His signature debates with liberal-leaning students frequently went viral on social media.

Personal Life And Legacy

Outside of politics, Charlie Kirk was married to podcaster and former Miss Arizona USA Erika Frantzve.

The couple shared two children: a daughter born in 2022 and a son born in 2024.
