In a surprising twist, Grammy-winning rapper Nelly is set to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s Inaugural Liberty Ball on Monday night, according to a CBS News report.
This unexpected announcement has left many fans and observers puzzled, especially given Nelly’s previous remarks about Trump.
In a 2017 interview, Nelly expressed that while he didn’t mind Trump as a celebrity, he took issue with his political actions, stating, “He doesn’t surprise me as a person… He surprises me as a president because you don’t expect certain things, certain attitudes.”
The decision to perform at the inauguration has sparked mixed reactions among Nelly’s fanbase.
Some view it as a surprising alignment, given the rapper’s past sentiments, while others see it as some folks will do anything for a check.
