🐾 Couple Stumbles On Starving Dog Outside Buckhead Hotel
What started as a routine day turned into a heartbreaking discovery for a Buckhead couple, who unknowingly uncovered a case of animal cruelty involving R&B singer Jaheim after spotting a malnourished dog outside the Hyatt Centric Hotel earlier this month.
“You could see his ribs and hip bones. It was startling,” the woman shared in an exclusive interview with Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter.
The red dog was tethered outside an RV in the hotel parking lot—visibly weak and neglected. The couple immediately acted on instinct.
“That poor dog… when we brought food and water down to it, it looked like he hadn’t eaten in six weeks,” the man recalled.
🚨 They Tried To Help—Then Called Authorities
The couple didn’t just walk away.
They tried to speak directly to the owner of the RV—later identified as R&B singer Jaheim—to offer assistance.
“I went by very calmly and said, ‘Do you need any help? We’ve got dog food upstairs.’ He instantly said, ‘Why would you ask me a question like that?’”
After the tense exchange and seeing the dog’s condition, the couple knew they had to call for help.
⚖️ Their Report Sparked A Full-Blown Investigation
The couple’s report prompted authorities to investigate the RV.
What they found inside was disturbing: multiple dogs living in filth, surrounded by feces and urine.
According to the arrest warrant, Jaheim—whose full name is Jaheim Hoagland—had already received three warnings from animal control before the dogs were finally removed from his care.
He was arrested on May 1 and charged with animal cruelty involving six dogs: four pit bulls, a French bulldog, and a mixed-breed hound.
🕵🏽♀️ Not The First Time Jaheim Faced Cruelty Allegations
This isn’t Jaheim’s first time being accused of animal neglect.
In 2021, authorities in Hillsborough, New Jersey, charged him with third-degree animal cruelty after 15 dogs were found living in unsanitary, unsafe conditions without adequate care.
🐶 One Dog Still Needs A Loving Home
One of the dogs from the Buckhead case, Taka, was listed as “at risk” for euthanasia and is available for adoption through the Fulton County Lifeline website.
🗣️ The Couple Speaks Out For Stricter Laws
The couple hopes their actions will not only save the dogs involved, but also spark changes in how animal cruelty cases are handled.
“I wish there were stricter laws to prevent situations like this,” the woman said.
Their courage, compassion, and willingness to act made a life-saving difference—and now the spotlight is back on a repeat offender.
