Brayla Stone, a 17-year-old transgender teen, was found dead in a car in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Sherwood Police Department was called just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, about a car on the walking path off of Gap Creek Drive.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Brayla deceased inside of the vehicle.
The body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for indentification.
Police are investigating this case as a homicide.
Out Magazine is reporting Brayla’s death is believed to have been a murder-for-hire or a hit.
Someone on Instagram with the handle “tapnseason” is claiming to have “zipped em for 5K” and added that it was “Money Well Spent.” The post have now been deleted.
David Johns, Executive Director of the National Black Justice Coalition said in a statement:
Brayla Stone is the 8th transgender person killed in the last seven days. Brayla Stone was seventeen years young when someone murdered her because we live in a society where it is not yet explicit that when we say BlackLivesMatter we mean all Black lives, which includes Black trans women and girls.
Trans activist and journalist Ashlee Marie Preston called attention to Brayla’s death and the fact that the media is using her birth name in their reports.
Brayla Stone’s family asked that her birth name of Braylon Jay-Quan Stone be used in all reporting.
