Chris Kennedy of North Little Rock, Arkansas has an eight-foot Black Santa in his yard along with some other Christmas decorations, and he received an anonymous racist letter from someone condemning the Black Santa.
You should not try to deceive children into believing that I am a negro. You being jealous of my race is no excuse for your dishonesty.
Kennedy shared his response to the letter via a live stream on his Facebook account.
I am trying to be as nice as I can in this very moment because I am actually filled with rage.
The letter also had an image of a white Santa with two thumbs down, and a label taped to the front that resembled the Lakewood Property Owners Association’s (LPOA) logo.
Evan Blake, the LPOA executive director, assured Kennedy that they had nothing to do with the letter. Blake condemn the letter and gave the Kennedys a free membership to the LPOA.
We have never had anyone attack anyone based on their race. Racism is something that we do discriminate against and we will not stand for it.
The community is rallying around the Kennedys by buying Black Santas and putting them up in their yards.
The LPOA is also planning on displaying a Black Santa in their office as soon as it comes in the mail.
Blake said, “People are buying black Santas and trying to flood the neighborhood.”
Kennedy says he really appreciates the support, but he would rather people donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas for the children who do not get to be at home with their families this Christmas.
Keep smiling, keep God first, and push forward. There are still loving and caring individuals out there. I know that my neighborhood has definitely lifted us up.
