Barack Obama’s Heartfelt Surprise For War Heroes Ahead Of Veterans Day
Former President Barack Obama gave a group of Korean and Vietnam War heroes a surprise they’ll never forget.
Ahead of Veterans Day, the 44th president joined an Honor Flight from Madison, Wisconsin, to Washington, D.C., to thank veterans personally for their service and sacrifice.
In a video shared on social media, Obama can be seen boarding the flight, greeting veterans, and offering a message that tugged at the heartstrings of everyone on board.
“Ahead of Veterans Day, I was honored to welcome a flight of veterans and their families as they arrived in D.C. To all those who bravely served our country, thank you to you and your family for your extraordinary service,” Obama wrote in his caption.
A Moment To Remember For America’s Heroes
The former president took to the plane’s intercom to share his gratitude directly.
“Hello, everybody. As we approach Veterans Day, I wanted to stop by and just say thank you for your extraordinary service,” Obama told the veterans.
“To you, your family, the sacrifices that all of you made to protect our country is something that will always be honored, and we are very grateful.”
The emotional encounter happened through the Honor Flight Network, a nonprofit that arranges complimentary flights for veterans to visit war memorials in the nation’s capital.
For many of these men and women, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to reconnect, reflect, and honor fallen comrades.
According to their website, the Honor Flight Network has flown over 300,000 veterans to Washington, D.C., over the past two decades, completely free of charge.
