It’s with a heavy heart and complete shock that I report the passing of Angie Stone.
The legendary soul singer, known for timeless hits like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “Brotha,” and “No More Rain (In This Cloud), tragically lost her life in a car accident early Saturday morning in Montgomery, Alabama.
Angie’s rep, Deborah R. Champagne, confirmed that the singer had just left a performance in Mobile when the tragic accident happened.
Details Of The Accident
The tragic crash involving a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van claimed the life of Angie Stone early in the morning.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the collisions occurred at 4:25 a.m. near mile marker 162, about five miles south of Montgomery’s city limits.
The first crash involved the Mercedes-Benz van overturning on I-65 in a single-vehicle accident.
Shortly after, a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by 33-year-old Jared S. Wilkinson of Skidmore, Texas, struck the overturned van.
ALEA believes the second collision killed Angie.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, 66-year-old Leethel Carter of Atlanta, Georgia, sustained injuries and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.
Other injured passengers, who were also taken to Baptist Medical Center South, include:
- Sherita Murphy, 44, of Ellenwood, GA
- Anthony Majors, Jr., 44, of Atlanta, GA
- Ashton Evans, 31, of Ellenwood, GA
- Dontay Dailey, 32, of Stone Mountain, GA
- James Owens, 33, of Atlanta, GA
- Sheila Hopkins, 62, of Katy, TX
- Sherie Murphy, 44, of Ellenwood, GA
No additional details have been released at this time.

Angie Stone leaves behind her daughter, Diamond Stone, from her marriage to Rodney Stone, and her son, Michael Archer Jr. (Swayvo Twain), from her previous relationship with singer D’Angelo.
