Angela Simmons is opening up about her high-profile relationship—and breakup—with rapper Yo Gotti.
In a new episode of “IRL with Angie Martinez,” the “Growing Up Hip Hop” star got real about love, heartbreak, and how hard it can be dating in the public eye.
While Angela has always been notoriously private about her relationships, her romance with Gotti was the rare exception.
“He kind of manifested it,” Angie says, referring to the rapper’s long-standing public crush on Angela before the two officially got together.
For a while, fans watched their love story unfold in real time—from lavish trips to Instagram photoshoots.
But somewhere along the way, the fairytale fizzled out.

💔 Angela Simmons On Why She And Yo Gotti Broke Up
When asked directly if they’re still together, Angela didn’t dance around it:
“No, I’m not with him. No… not my choice. But, you know, I respect him. It’s all love.”
While Angela didn’t go into detail about what led to the breakup, she made it clear that her heart was very much in it.
“My feelings were involved,” she told Angie.
“When I’m in love, I’m in love… which means like, I’m staying with you. So yeah, it didn’t feel good to not be with him.”
She later clarified that although it wasn’t her choice initially, she ultimately made the decision to walk away.

🕊️ “That Season Has Passed”
Angela says she doesn’t regret sharing their relationship publicly, even though she normally keeps her love life under wraps.
“It just felt special enough to share,” she explained.
“We were on the same page… I don’t believe you have to give it all to show that you’re together.”
Despite the heartbreak, Angela emphasized that there’s no bad blood between them.
“Much love and respect to him… he’s doing his thing and I’m happy for him.”
🌱 What Angela Simmons Has Learned About Love
Angela also shared that dating as a public figure comes with unique challenges.
People often project a fantasy version of who they think she is based on her TV persona.
“You get in a relationship with me and you’re like, ‘Oh, I thought you were like this.’
I’m like, ‘Bro, that was five seconds of my life.’”
She added that growing up in the spotlight—especially as Rev Run’s daughter—comes with assumptions that aren’t always accurate.
“It’s just mad things that people automatically think come with me… and it’d be like, nah, that’s not my life.”
At the end of the day, Angela says she’s a lover of love, and despite her past heartbreaks, she’s still open to it.
But for now, she’s embracing this new season with grace, privacy, and self-respect.
