24 seasons later, ABC has unveiled their first black bachelor, Matt James.
Matt is a 28-year-old real estate broker and entrepreneur. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention he his also very easy on the eyes.
ABC released the following statement to “Good Morning America”:
We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we’re seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in, and we are proudly in service to our audience.
This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him.
The gesture is cute and while some are happy… everyone is quite falling for it.

I couldn’t love this more! But I feel like we needed some type of statement along of the lines of, “We are part of the problem. There’s no excuse for having 40 seasons and only 1 lead of color. We vow to change starting now. Here’s your new bachelor.”

I wanted a Black man with a Black mother and Black father. Like an actual Black Black man. He’s biracial with a white mom he’s going to choose a Karen or Becky. Why would Black people want to watch that? Why would Black women want to watch that? I’m out.
What are your thoughts on ABC’s new “Bachelor,” Matt James?
