Y’all wanna hear a story about how me and this b**ch fell out? It’s kind of long, but it’s full of suspense…

A24 is set to release their highly anticipated film, Zola, starring Taylour Paige and Riley Keough, on June 30 in theaters nationwide, and you better buckle up because it’s one helluva ride!

The Janicza Bravo film is based on A’Ziah “Zola” King‘s iconic 2015 Twitter thread, where she detailed 48 hours of the most mind-blowing adventure in “hoeism” ever told.

If you’re unfamiliar with the story…

Zola is a Detroit waitress, who strikes up a friendship with one of her customers, Stefani.

The very next day, Stefani seduces her into going on a road trip to Florida with her boyfriend and her roommate so that they could make a quick come-up dancing.

Zola had no idea her lil friend would take her on a wild adventure that involved pimps, trickin, Backpage, kidnapping, and a possible murder.

Let me begin by saying Janicza did an excellent job creating the visual for the story so many of us could only imagine while reading the original 148-tweet thread.

Taylour nails it as Zola. She’s beautiful, sexy, a lil ratchet, and she has survival instincts that would make Detective Mason from “The First 48” proud.

Riley’s performance as Stefani is triggering – especially if you’ve ever ended up in some BS due to a friend who is always DTF.

Colman Domingo is a veteran. He always understands the assignment and delivers.

Last, but certainly not least, T.S. Madison gives what needs to be given.

Naturally, social media and technology play a big role in the film because that is pretty much how we all became aware of Zola’s story.

HOW-EV-AH, 15 to 20 minutes into the film it becomes quite annoying and distracting. You’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when you hear it.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention while some adventures in hoeism can be quite entertaining, there are scenes in the film that are unsettling and disturbing if you aren’t about that life.

Overall, if you enjoyed the 2015 Twitter thread, I’m sure you will most definitely enjoy the film.

My only complaint is they didn’t see the film through to Zola’s final tweet to provide closure to the story.
