Richard Burgi as Ashland Locke on The Young and the Restless
CBS

Richard Burgi is back on the job market after he was fired from CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” for ‘inadvertently” violating their COVID-19 safety protocol.

The 63-year-old New Jersey native visited his family during Christmas.

Afterward, he tested positive for COVID-19.

He was quarantined for five days, per the CDC’s updated guidelines, he tested negatively twice, and showed up for work.

Unfortunately, the protocol for “The Young and the Restless” is to follow the CDC’s previous recommendation, which is a 10-day quarantine.

Richard Burgi popped up at work after a five-day quarantine and got fired.

In a now-deleted video posted on his IG Story, Richard said:

I felt terrible about it. I still do. It bothers me mightily, but it is what it is.

I respect whatever the show’s decision is.

They’re doing the best they can, as we all are.

Richard was cast on the soap in 2021 to play the recurring role of Ashland Locke, a powerful and ruthless businessman.

Word on the street is Robert Newman, who previously appeared on “Guiding Light,” will take over his role.

Richard wished his replacement well saying:

I truly wish the gentleman who’s coming in to play Ashland a wonderful time.

He’s going to be working with the most incredible actress and a great, great cast. It’s an amazing show.

I have nothing but good memories and good wishes for it.

This is a prime example of why it has been so hard to eradicate COVID-19.

Protocols and guidelines are continuously changing to the point of confusion.
