Young Dolph Murder Suspects, Justin Johnson & Cornelius Smith, In Custody
Shelby County Sheriff's Office

Two men wanted in connection to the shooting death of rapper Young Dolph are now in police custody.

Justin Johnson, 23, and Cornelius Smith, 32, are the two men police say opened fire on Dolph, real name Adolph Thornton, Jr., when he was inside of Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies on November 17, 2021.

Justin, who raps under the moniker “Straight Drop,” was captured in Indiana on Tuesday (January 11) around 3 p.m.

In 2017, he was arrested and charged in the triple shooting.

Johnson was sentenced to five years in prison, but a judge approved a motion to suspend his sentence and released him after serving only five months behind bars.

Cornelius Smith was arrested on December 9 on an auto-theft warrant involving the white Mercedes Benz that was used in Young Dolph’s murder.

The Mercedes was stolen in a carjacking on November 10 at a local gas station.

Police found the vehicle abandoned three days after Dolph was gunned down.

Smith was extradited from DeSoto County Jail to Shelby County Jail on Tuesday (January 11).

Justin Johnson is facing charges of first-degree murder and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.

He also has an outstanding warrant for violation of federal release in connection to a weapons conviction.

Cornelius Smith is also charged with first-degree murder, along with attempted first-degree murder, unlawfully carrying or possessing a weapon, employment of a firearm with intent to commit a felony, and theft of property between $10,000 and $60,000.

My continued prayers to the family of Young Dolph and all who knew and loved him.
