First, the Oscar-winning actress revealed her “friend” and director, Lee Daniels, informed her she had been blackballed in Hollywood. She also stated the offers she received to star in The Butler and Daniels’ Richard Pryor biopic were pulled off of the table following her win.
Then, in an interview on CNN, Mo’Nique claimed she was never blackballed. She said simply turned down the roles that were offered to her because they “didn’t make sense.”
Shortly thereafter, Mo’Nique appeared on “Inside Edition” and dropped a bomb when she claimed she was offered the role of Cookie Lyon on the hit FOX series, “Empire!”
When he [Lee Daniels] called me up, he offered me the role in Empire as Cookie.
Maybe four days had gone by, and I hadn’t heard anything. So I’m trying to reach out to him to say, what time do I need to be in? Where do I need to be? When he finally returned the call, he says listen, the executives at Fox said that you’re difficult.
Watch the clip below.
While you’re digesting that chunk of info, check out this clip of Mo’Nique saying Lee Daniels is the only person in Hollywood who has an issue with her.
Mo says Lee in his feelings because she didn’t thank him during her Oscar acceptance speech.
Welp…fast times slowed up with “Empire” co-creator, Danny Strong took to his Twitter account to set the record straight by saying Mo’Nique was never offered roles on “Empire” or The Butler.
A lie don’t care who tells it.
Clearly, we have a huge discrepancy in these stories and I think now is a very good time for Mo’Nique to stop doing interviews. At this point, if she hasn’t been blackballed in Hollywood…she might be now. (Gucci Mane voice)
The good news is Mo’Nique is still encouraging her fans to support “Empire.”
What a mess.
