During her appearance on the “Tonight Show,” Ariana Grande and The Roots performed a beautiful rendition of “Natural Woman” in tribute to Aretha Franklin.
The “Queen of Soul” passed away on Thursday (August 16) after a long battle with cancer.
Ariana, who has said Aretha was one of her heroes, was supposed to do a comedy skit during her appearance on the show, but producers asked her to perform a song to honor Aretha.
Initially, Ariana Grande declined because she was too emotional after learning of Aretha Franklin’s passing.
According to TMZ, Questlove spoke with the singer and convinced her it would be awesome for them to do a song in honor of the Queen of Soul.
Ariana agreed but reportedly broke down in tears after giving an amazing performance.
Rest in paradise, Aretha.
