Vice President-elect Kamala Harris took the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine live on television on Tuesday (December 30) in Washington, in an effort to reassure Americans that the vaccine is safe and painless.

After being vaccinated, VP-elect Harris thanked clinical nurse manager Patricia Cummings for administering the vaccine, and she thanked the United Medical Center “for the work that you do in Southeast (Washington) DC, serving a community that is often overlooked.”

She then encouraged all Americans to get vaccinated.

That was easy. Thank you. I barely felt it. I want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine. It is relatively painless. It happens really quickly. It is safe. It’s literally about saving lives. I trust the scientists. And it is the scientists who created and approved this vaccine. So I urge everyone, when it is your turn, get vaccinated.

President-elect Joe Biden took the vaccination a week earlier than VP-elect Harris at the recommendation of medical experts.

They were instructed to stagger their vaccinations so they would not experience side effects (headache or fever) on the same day.

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved two coronavirus vaccines: one from Pfizer/BioNTech and one from Moderna. Both vaccines have shown efficacy levels of near 95%, and both vaccines require two doses administered several weeks apart.

It’s good to know that our President-elect Joe Biden and our VP-elect Kamala Harris have received the first dose of the vaccination and they are fully confident in it, but I’ll pass!

Personally, I don’t feel enough research went into a virus that impacted America less than a year ago for me to be fully confident in the vaccine, despite what the scientists say.

Do you plan on taking the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s available to you?
