Hip Hop Honors To Pay Tribute Queen Latifah

Ooooh, ladies first…ladies first!

VH1’s Hip Hop Honors will return after a six-year hiatus with a very special tribute to Queen Latifah.

The ceremony will air live from New York City on July 11 and will “celebrate all-female trailblazers and pioneers who have made their mark in the male-dominated genre.”

Via Billboard:

Queen Latifah has been a reigning force in hip-hop and beyond. The artist/actress secured a Grammy Award for Best Solo Rap Performance in 1994 as well as several nominations including Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2005 and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2008. Her third album, Black Reign, was the first album by a female MC ever to go gold. In Hollywood, her acting chops have earned her a high reputation as she recently nabbed a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for her contributions to Bessie.

The Newark, New Jersey rep will also serve as executive producer of VH1 Hip Hop Honors through her entertainment company Flavor Unit, marking yet another collaboration with VH1 following the one-hour special Dear Mama that aired earlier this year.

Queen L-A-T-I-F-A-H in command!

I will be tuned in. How about you?
