Valedictorian Andrew Jones barred from high school graduation for facial hair

Valedictorian Andrew Jones Barred From High School Graduation

A Louisiana high school is under fire after they barred the valedictorian from his high school graduation because of his facial hair.

Andrew Jones is the head of his class at Amite High School with a 4.0 GPA, but the goatee he’s worn for the past four years became an issue on graduation night.

Education officials said Jones’ beard violated the school’s facial hair policy. Andrew and 13 other students, who arrived at graduation were told they had to shave before the ceremony on Wednesday night.

When Andrew refused, his cap and gown were taken away and he did not walk.

Tangipahoa Schools Superintendent Mark Kolwe stated Jones had been warned several times about his facial hair, but remained adamant about keeping it.

The NAACP have reportedly gotten involved.

The good news is Andrew Jones is headed to SLU with an academic scholarship, an athletic scholarship and a spot on the football team.

He plans to play professional sports or become a sports team trainer.
